Exhibition Night

Last night was Exhibition Night and our team presented our Pinhole Camera project and our Graphic Novel project. I thought Exhibition night went very well. The past week was very stressful and I was sick so I didn't think I was going to do to well or get my binders done at all but we managed to get it all together. My groups weaknesses during Exhibition and preparing for Exhibition were getting our binder together. We got our binder together the day of Exhibition and it was beyond stressful and that is defiantly something I would do different for next time. Another weakness was my partner didn't really know the story because I had written it. That was a huge challenge we had because it really doesn’t look good when someone doesn’t know their own story. This was mostly my fault I guess. Another weakness my group had was sometimes I felt like I was talking a little too much but when I realized it I told my partner to answer the next few question and it created a good balance.

The only real challenge I had was when a parent explained to me that he didn’t think that light traveled in a straight line. It was a really weird situation to handle when we had been learning that light did travel in a straight line and then someone says it didn’t. The way I handled this was let him explain and tell me what he thought and thought about it myself. His explanation and argument was very compelling so it made me question it as well. so I told him I would look into it. I think I handled the situation very well.

If I were to do this again I would prepare a bit more, other than that I think I did a good job at answering everyones questions.

Acting

Today in class we did acting exercises to get to know our story characters better. As a class we pushed the tables out and formed a circle, the first few exercises we did were mainly to loosen us up. The next exercise we did was with our own characters, with our props we would pose just as our character would. The next exercise was introducing our characters to the class. So within our group we chose one character and introduced them as they would introduce themselves. Doing this exercise made me realize that my character well lacked a lot of character. The next exercise was acting a scene from our story. The purpose of this was to get to know our character even better and just make them even more human. Although my group didn’t get to go I still learned that my character and story lacked a lot of depth. There is definitely a lot my group has to work on before starting our novel.
During these exercises I compiled a list of things I needed to work on for my story. The first thing our group needs to work on is the complexity of our character as of now our character lacks tons of depth. Our character definitely needs an edge of something that makes him different from all our other minor characters. The second thing our group needs to work on is our synopsis. Our synopsis does not have a lot of detail and I would like it not all to be about war and add more aspects of the war. These excrcies helped me realize that I have a lot of work to do for our novel.

Synopsis, Still Working on

Storyboard
James has known his cousin Jimmy since they were both kids. They were the same age. At 18 years old, James wanted to go to college but his father had other plans for him. He wanted his son to be a British soldier, like his father and like his grandfather before him. During the time James trained to become a British soldier, his cousin Jimmy prepared to become an American colonist. James was happy for his cousin. He wanted to go with Jimmy but had to go where the military needed him. James told Jimmy he would see him as soon as possible. James was notified he would be going to war. He was not told where he would go but he would know when he got there. His first battle was in India.
His next battle, also a surprise, was in America. Soon after his arrival, James found himself in the battle for Bunker Hill. As the British went up the hill, the Americans fired upon them. One of the first people that James saw on that hill was his cousin Jimmy. In the blink of an eye, Jimmy shot James in the leg. James was down right angry. How could his own blood shoot at him? The pain was agonizing. As if in answer, he saw Jimmy get shot by one of the British soldiers. James did not shoot back at his cousin. James was dragged to the rear of the battle for medical attention.
There he found out that the British had won the battle of Bunker Hill. James had hoped that his cousin was ok. James had to stay in a hospital until his leg got better. At one point the doctors wanted to amputate his leg. James refused to have his leg cut off. He knew his leg would get better without cutting it off. His leg healed quickly. James had to know if his cousin was still alive. He could not go back to the battlefield because for one thing, the war was over and for another thing he was being sent to Canada.
James found out that the British had lost the war to the Americans. He had to know if his cousin was still alive. He prepared to go to America in search of Jimmy. He found his cousin in a Boston pub. He approached his cousin and asked, “How could you fire upon your own blood?” Jimmy explained that he did not recognize James. He was sorry for the shot in the leg. Jimmy invited his cousin to stay in America for a while. He invited James to stay at his home. James accepted his cousin’s offer. He stayed with Jimmy until duty demanded that he return to Britain. On the day of his departure for Britain, Jimmy presented his gun to James as a gift.
